Lisa L. Lewis, MS, is a freelance journalist, author and public speaker.

Her book, The Sleep-Deprived Teen: Why Our Teenagers Are So Tired, and How Parents and Schools Can Help Them Thrive, is an outgrowth of her previous work on the topic, including her role helping get California’s landmark legislation on healthy school start times passed.

Lewis regularly presents to schools and parent groups about the sleep/mental wellness connection and related topics, and has appeared on the Today show, BBC radio, WBUR “On Point,” KQED “Forum,” and many other radio, TV, and podcast segments.

She’s written for The Washington Post, The New York TimesThe AtlanticTIME, the Los Angeles TimesSlate, and Your Teen, among others. She’s a parent to a teen and a recent teen who inspire much of what she writes about—everything from concussions and heat stroke to school lockdowns to teenage sleep.

Lewis has a master’s degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, an MFA from Mills College, and a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley. She lives in Southern California with her family.
